The run is done but the fun keeps running!

At the break of dawn last March 17, 2012, Saturday, the day appeared as normal and usual when most Manilenos take this as a start of another ordinary week-end to savor their expected routine. This was not so with BCBP. This marked an extraordinary day for BCBP as members from South Metro Manila Region and fur-flung provinces converged into the most unique and first ever activity of its kind to participate in a “RUN” that will generate fund and fun for the 32nd National Anniversary Celebration (NAC32). As early as 4:30AM and every 30 minutes thereafter, a shot was fired into the air signaling the start of a particular race to cover the distance of the FUNRUN that included 15K, 10K, 5K, 3K and 500M (meters).

Numbering around 2,600 participants, some runners took it seriously. But many more had it with so much delight in their hearts by simply having fun as they run while the sun burst to open the day that exposed the palatial SM Mall of Asia and its spread out environs where this special event took place. Aside from other enormous gains, the “BE HONEST campaign” which the FunRun highlighted sent a clear message to onlookers that our BCBP community with pride is unique in terms of its spirituality and advocacy.

Excitement exuded when participants geared up at the starting line and rounded the area by running, jogging, strutting, walking and still few were literally crawling simply to complete their chosen distance (no strict rules applied). Others were ensconced of their own pace while in motion as they wave their hands, talk, nod and exchange pleasantries with each one without even feeling that they were in the race (competitive? Not really). The water stations strategically located served as a pit stop mirthfully for “HI, HELLO and how are you?” but did not sunder the momentum to move on and finish the race based on the runner’s individual strength.

Distinctively noticeable was the ubiquitous smile of all those who were present with a high note of fellowship, camaraderie and happy feeling which they never had experienced before in such field community gathering. The BCBP President himself, Bro. Manny Jimenez, was caught in the picture beaming with wide smile as he wholeheartedly participated and completed the distance which for sure the rest of the Mancom officials present carried the same degree of discipline and enthusiasm. The NAC32 Chairman and now AMD for South Luzon, Bro Jun Obra, with Sis. Mina and family also joined the fun fare with so much gusto and waved with those they met along the way while they covered their own distance.

The Program was equally exhilarating as the able hosts (emcees), Sis. Beth Ginete (Makati) and Bro. Rey Salonga (Las Pinas), showed their wit, mettle and talent in directing the program with vibrancy that made the participants always in high spirit even before and after the run. The conditioning exercise, the acknowledgements, sponsors, picture-takings, free drinks and other perquisites, stirred the members into a higher level of participation maintained by the hosts to keep the degree of interest up-beat throughout the program. The presence of Ms. Miriam Quiambao (Beauty Queen, actress and celebrity) added color to the proceeding with her motivation to keep the BCBP bodies’ shape-up while curious members go for more “photo ops” with her for this thing rarely happened.

Yes! The run is done but the fun keeps running as members continued to talk their experiences endlessly among themselves about this FUNRUN in their respective chapters. The t-shirt and the giveaways were all worth it for the registration fee and many members commented that they ended up with an advantage when all things were added up and considered on the equation. Some members even commented that this activity should be repeated again some other time for it really brought the true-sense of Brotherhood among the members and made the chapters get closer to each one especially in Metro Manila. The bonding was tremendous that chapter inter-mix activities could be possibly organized handily in the future as proven by the unity of spirit initiated by the FunRun.

Above all, this activity is seen as a preface and support to NAC32 since this was originally designed as a fund raising campaign by the Ways & Means Committee spearheaded by Bro. Billy Gualberto (Alabang). More than the “generated fund” is the “created fun” which will linger in the minds of the participating members in a much longer time until the nascent of the next FunRun takes its course hopefully next year.

At the end of the day. . . To run is fun but only the BCBP way!

Finishing touches are almost done! Everything is covered! No stone unturned!

These were the encouraging words and phrases impressed by the various committee heads upon our brothers & sisters when their respective status report was made during the program held last Friday, March 9, 2012 at Santuario de San Antonio, Forbes Park,
Makati. The occasion was the South Metro Manila Region (SMMR) assembly with Mass and Empowerment in a spirit-filled atmosphere attended by members coming from Makati, Alabang, Manila, Pasay, Paranaque and Las Pinas chapters. The mass was officiated by no
less than the BCBP’s Spiritual Director, Fr. Herb Schneider, ensued by plenary empowerment since everybody will be involved directly to the service in connection with the fast approaching 32nd National Anniversary Celebration on April 13-14, 2012 at SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia. The meeting-program included the work-in-progress, concerns and expectation of each committee heads or cluster heads for the information of all.

First to report was Bro. Etchin Sumagang, BCBP’s National Treasurer and Cluster A Head, involving Programs & Activities. His reports dwell on the programs that will transpire with timeline on activities for the two day period. He admonished that every SMMR member is a host-servant to this affair and must diligently look after the provincial delegates in welcoming, ushering and taking good care of them. Friday attire will be NAC32 T-shirts (color-coded based on Area) while Saturday breakfast will be in business garb and in the afternoon till nighttime will require formal costume (gown/cocktail dress for women, suit for men, etc.).

Bro. Topy Vasquez, a MANCOM member, representing Cluster B involving physical arrangement, presented the layout of the venue for the two-day period and assured every one of enough spaces despite the 4,000 to 4,500 delegates converging in one place. He meticulously computed the entrance and exit points, table & seat arrangement, dance floor, decorations, stage, movements of people and some safety nets to ensure that a “sublime experience” will be felt by all delegates.

Cluster C Head, Bro. Jojo Pascual, will cover general logistics and services. Though this group may be seen at the back view, their contribution is the backbone of the celebration. Ways and Means headed by Bro. Billy Gualberto which includes Golf tournament
(already held), fun run (already held), grand raffle (April 14), direct solicitation – all with the aim of generating funds for NAC32. The Cluster’s responsibility also involves the souvenir program (under Bro. Rally Ramirez); Transportation (Bro. Allan Timonera); accommodation (Bro. Ross Santos); Tours (Bro. Frank Khouri); and Security (Gen. Robert Rongavilla). Although plans were clearly laid out for transportation and accommodation, the biggest challenge will be their execution for it will be impacted by time, distance and the
number of people to be served.

The Secretariat which reports directly to the NAC32 Chairman was represented by its head, Bro. Jug Gallardo of Las Pinas, claimed that as of last month, the registrants reached the 3,600 mark. He expects a thousand more could be in the pipeline as the Convention date gets nearer. He reminded everyone that the sorting of kits will be whole day on March 24 at Philam Clubhouse, Philamlife Village, Las Pinas and every one is invited to join and contribute something for the effort.

The last piece of course was delivered by the NAC32 Chairman and Area Managing Director for South Luzon, Bro. Jun Obra, who summarized the reports and encouraged everyone to be totally involved in the service which he described as tough-heavy. Well, with the theme . . .”Go. . . I am with you!” with great confidence and for His honor and glory, it will be an easy-light to all especially if we put our service with purity of purpose in all aspects.

The bubbly and well-resonated music that night was provided by the SM6 NAC32 Music Ministry, with exuberant members coming from six chapters of SMMR headed by the couple, Weng & Boots Carballo of Las Pinas. The NAC32 theme song, “Go . . . I am with you” composed and arranged by Bro. Jun Sedurifa of Pasay, was played in public for the first time to the delight of everyone.

YES TO THE PROGRESS! READY EVERYBODY! Let us usher the delegates with felicity and benevolence in our hearts which only true Manilans can bestow.

SEE YA! IN MANILA!

MANILA, Philippines – Boxing icon Manny Pacquiao has been invited to lead the “Be Honest Run 2012” firing off March 17 at the IMAX parking lot on Seaside Blvd. at the Mall of Asia complex in Pasay City.

“We believe that Pacquiao is a role model as a Filipino who has raised his family and helped his countrymen through his honest and truthful efforts,” said race director Alberto Bugayong of the organizing Brotherhood of Christian Businessmen and Professionals (BCBP).

A non-stock, non-profit organization, registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission with 30,000 members nationwide, the BCBP launched the Be Honest Run in conjunction with its 32nd national anniversary celebrations.

The event will be fired off at 4:30 a.m. Events on tap are the 15K, 10K, 5K, 3K and 500 meters with organizers expecting more than 5,000 runners. Entry fee is pegged at P550 per runner in any category.

“We believe that a high-profile running event to be attended by thousands is the best way to promote the ‘Be Honest’ advocacy, as well as spread the word of God on brotherhood and love,” said Bugayong.

Aside from the fun run, the other BCBP projects include honesty campaigns targeting public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers, oratorical contests in public schools and offering incentives such as “The Most Honest Award to students.”

For details, check the Be Honest Run Facebook page, call the BCBP office at 874-8470 to 71 or email behonestrun@yahoo.com.
